The Ashford Short Course Scheduled for August Opening

(WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va.) – The newest addition to the award-winning golf offerings at The Greenbrier and The Greenbrier Sporting Club will follow in the tradition of excellence that has become synonymous with America’s Resort, but it will also provide a fresh and unique option for today’s modern golfer.

Scheduled for an August  2018 opening, The Ashford Short Course at The Greenbrier Sporting Club will be a walking-only 9-hole loop of par 3 holes ranging from 56 to 112 yards in length. The holes will pay tribute to revered architects and courses around the world and provide a relaxed family environment that will be entertaining for golfers of all levels and abilities.

Available for both members of The Greenbrier Sporting Club and guests of The Greenbrier, the newest golf offering will perfectly complement the courses already in place – The Old White TPC, which hosts The Greenbrier Classic annually, the redesigned Meadows Course, which features signature stacked sod bunkers, and The Snead Course, an award-winning Tom Fazio design exclusive to members of The Greenbrier Sporting Club.

“The Greenbrier is known around the world for first-class golf, and this is just another example of our commitment to giving guests what they desire,” said Robert Harris, Vice President of Golf at The Greenbrier. “The Ashford will provide an opportunity for something new and different on days where guests and members just don’t have time to play 18 holes. In addition to providing a place for beginners to learn the game or an experienced golfer to work out the rust in his or her short game, the course will host unique events like night golf and closest to the pin contests.

The new course’s name, The Ashford Short Course, pays tribute to the rich history at The Greenbrier and remembers a unique moment in The Greenbrier’s more than 240-year past.

In 1942, the historic resort was sold to the United States Army, and it became a hospital for sick and wounded soldiers during World War II. Named for Army physician Col. Bailey K. Ashford, Ashford General Hospital treated more than 25,000 soldiers from 1942 through 1946. It employed 45 doctors, 100 nurses and 500 enlisted men, along with hundreds of volunteers. The recovering servicemen benefited by using The Greenbrier’s immaculate facilities – including the pool, the golf courses and the tennis courts – during their recovery.

Set in the valley floor with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, the course will be accompanied by seven new home sites for members of The Greenbrier Sporting Club.

USGA and Deloitte Renew Multiyear Partnership

Announcement Comes During U.S. Open Trophy Visit to Deloitte

(LIBERTY CORNER, N.J.) -  The United States Golf Association (USGA) and Deloitte announced the renewal of a multiyear professional-services partnership that extends their collaboration on initiatives that benefit golfers and the game.

The USGA and Deloitte first teamed up in 2014 to assess existing USGA programs and develop strategies designed to better meet the evolving expectations of today’s golfers, its Allied Golf Associations, and clubs/facilities. In 2016, Deloitte and the USGA announced their first multiyear professional-services partnership.

The USGA and Deloitte made the announcement on Friday, May 18, when the U.S. Open Trophy was displayed at Deloitte’s Midtown Manhattan office, and more than 1,000 Deloitte employees in 30 offices played a nine-hole round of golf. The trophy is currently touring the New York metro area in advance of the U.S. Open Championship, conducted by the USGA in June.  Friday marked Deloitte’s fifth PLAY9 Day outing, supporting a key USGA program that encourages more people to play more golf, more often in today’s often time-strapped environment.

For the 118th U.S. Open on June 11-17 at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y., Deloitte designed an interactive Virtual Reality (VR) experience meant to give fans a unique perspective on the championship and its rich history with Shinnecock Hills. Fans can immerse themselves in a 360-degree, first-person perspective of Corey Pavin, who will narrate his shots from the 18th hole of the final round as he clinched his 1995 U.S. Open win at Shinnecock. They will also have an opportunity to leverage VR to take a visual and historic tour of the iconic Trophy Room in Shinnecock’s clubhouse.

In addition to its professional services work with the USGA, Deloitte supports USGA championships and initiatives, including programs that celebrate volunteerism and promote inclusion and innovation in and beyond the golf community. Angel Cabrera-Designed 18-Hole Course Receives Top Golf Honor

Casa de Campo Announces ‘Competitive Edge’ Junior Golf Camp

Highlighted by World-Class Instruction from Renowned PGA Professional Suzy Whaley
