Kilmarlic Golf Club Receives Rave Reviews at ODU/OBX Collegiate Invitational

(OUTER BANKS, N.C.) — Two-time national champion Georgia head coach Chris Haack has taken his Bulldogs to play some of the nation’s most storied courses and traveled to various exotic locales in his 16 years leading the SEC stalwart.

But Haack and members of his 16th ranked squad had never been to the Outer Banks. Per a ringing recommendation from (former Georgia All-American) Nick Cassini who had worked at nearby Scotch Hall Preserve, the five-time SEC Coach of the Year brought his young team to play in the 32nd edition of the ODU/OBX Collegiate Invitational.

“It was a nice change of pace and we really enjoyed ourselves,” Haack said.  “What I especially liked was the laid back and less stressful atmosphere.  Instead of beating balls after each round, we spent that time checking out the Outer Banks, its beaches and famous sites. The one thing that we didn’t do was eat seafood since we ate at the same popular Mexican spot each night.”

Haack’s perspective was further brightened when his Dawgs delivered a four-shot victory over Liberty with a 30-under 834 tournament tally. Georgia notched a trio of top-10 individual finishes from medalist T.J. Mitchell, third-place Keith Mitchell and reigning British Amateur Champion Bryden Macpherson.

“Kilmarlic Golf Club is a tremendous tournament course with a little bit of everything,” Haack said.  “It gets really exciting and rather stressful for a coach on the back nine with three par-5s, a drivable par-4 and trouble left and right on most every hole. Anything could happen with birdies and bogeys lurking on every swing.”

Long-time Old Dominion head coach Murray Rudisill, who has led the Monarchs golf program for 36 years, echoed those sentiments.

Rudisill relayed that Kilmarlic – a Tom Steele design that played host to the prestigious North Carolina Open in 2004 and 2009 – proved the perfect venue for the country’s top collegiate players for the second straight year. “It has just tremendous par-5s and par-3s,” Rudisill said. “That’s the beauty of the course – great risk-reward. They’ve had two North Carolina Opens (at Kilmarlic) so it challenges the college guys. It’s not a seaside, links-type of course. It’s more of a traditional course. The facilities are beautiful and it’s always in pristine condition.”

Yas Links Abu Dhabi up for Best Course in the Middle East award

(YAS ISLAND, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates) - Yas Links Abu Dhabi (www.yaslinks.com), the UAE's newest and award-winning golf course, is on the cusp of further success after being shortlisted in the prestigious Asian Golf Monthly Awards 2011.

The UAE venue, which recently earned a place in the acclaimed Golf World Top 100 Courses in the World rankings for the first time, has been nominated, along with two other venues, in the Best Course in the Middle East category.

The gala awards ceremony will take place at the Pattaya Exhibition & Convention Hall in Thailand Nov. 2.

Chris White, General Manager of Aldar Properties (Golf Division), developer of Yas Links, said: "We are enormously proud to be shortlisted for another award, and one as important as Best Course in the Asian Golf Monthly Awards."

For Yas Links, already the recipient of a string of high-profile accolades despite having only opened last year, its shortlisting for the annual AGM 'Oscars' is "further acknowledgement of Yas Links' growing status within golf in the Middle East," according to Chris White.

This rise in prominence is highlighted by the various affiliate relationships the Yas Island-based club - whose celebrated championship links course was designed by leading golf course architect Kyle Phillips - has already forged with leading golf organisations and clubs worldwide for the mutual benefit of all parties.

For example, it teamed up with IMG, the global sports, entertainment and media company, earlier this year to support its Prestige service - a reciprocal programme that features a network of more than 30 premier golf properties and partners across the world. The services entitles Yas Links' full members, along with those at participating clubs, to enjoy 'preferred access' status (including special rates, discounts, benefits and privileges) offered by their counterparts and selected IMG Prestige partners.
These golf properties and partners - in established and emerging golf markets such as Australasia, Asia, the Far East and, of course, the Middle East - include Royal Golf Club (Bahrain), La Manga (Spain), Kingsbarns (Scotland), The Lodge at Kauri Cliffs (New Zealand), The Montgomerie Links (Vietnam), Legend Golf & Safari Resort (South Africa) and Lakeview (China).

"Our affiliate reciprocal partnerships forged through the IMG Prestige Service has helped elevate our standing among the world's finest venues, including those in growing golfing destinations such as the Far East, and serves to help achieve our vision of seeing Yas Links sit shoulder to shoulder with the very best," said Chris White.

Spencer Robinson, President (Editorial) of Asian Golf Monthly, said Yas Links fully deserved its place on the shortlist for Best Course: "That a course as young as Yas Links has gained so many admirers from all over the world in such a short span of time is a clear testament to the quality of the facility and the vision of the developers."

He added: "That so many courses in the Middle East received nominations in the 2011 Awards is an indication as to how popular the region is becoming as a golfing destination."

For more information about Yas Links Golf Club, Abu Dhabi please visit www.yaslinks.com.

Yas Links' widespread critical acclaim and prestigious accolades include:
- 'Best course in the Middle East' by Golf World contributor and Golf Course Architecture magazine editor, Adam Lawrence
- Placed 5th in a Golf Magazine USA 'Top 10 New International Golf Courses of 2010' ranking
- Ranked 2nd by one of the Middle East's most prominent newspapers, The National, in its Top 10 'professional-level' Golf Courses of the World - just behind the Old Course, St Andrews, Scotland, the historical home of golf
- Yas Links has been referred to as a 'game-changer' for golf in the Middle East, as it takes the entire region to a new level with an exceptional experience and superior quality
- Ranked at No. 1 in the latest Top 10 Courses of the UAE by the region's The National newspaper
- First ever club, less than a year old, to have been decorated with the coveted Best Golf Course and Best Club accolades by Middle East Golfer awards 2011
- Crowned Best Sporting Club in Abu Dhabi at the 2011 Best in Abu Dhabi Awards hosted by Ahlan!, the region's biggest-selling celebrity weekly
- Declared World Top 100 Courses in to the influential Golf World rankings for 2011

Get Distance Back with Cleveland Golf's New CG Black Line

(HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA) - Cleveland Golf announces the new CG Black product line, which is engineered for players seeking maximum distance and forgiveness. Every CG Black club has been designed for players who have lost some yardage and swing speed and are looking to get their distance back.

The CG Black driver weighs in at only 265 grams, which makes it the lightest driver on the market to help players generate measurable increases in swing speed and distance with the same swing effort. The advanced aerodynamics found in the driver's Speed Crown Design - an innovative, teardrop-inspired crown profile - maximize distance by reducing drag at all angles of airflow during the swing. MaxCOR2Variable Face Thickness Technology reduces face weight and increases trampoline effect on off-center hits, meaning higher ball speed and more distance on off-center hits. Plus, a high-density weight screw at the rear of the sole plate positions the center of gravity lower and deeper to promote a high, draw-biased trajectory with optimal launch conditions for effortless distance. The CG Black driver also features a Miyazaki C. Kua 39 Limited Edition graphite shaft - from the worldwide leader in ultralite graphite shaft technology - as well as a lightweight Golf Pride Tour 25 grip, a combination that decreases overall club weight for faster swing speed. MAP price: $399.99.

The CG Black fairway wood is one of the lightest fairway woods on the market, helping players produce measurable increases in swing speed and distance with the same swing effort. The advanced aerodynamics of Speed Crown Design - an innovative, teardrop-inspired crown profile - also maximize distance by reducing drag at all angles of airflow during the swing. A high-density weight screw at the rear of the sole plate positions the center of gravity lower and deeper to promote a high, draw-biased trajectory with optimal launch conditions for effortless distance. The CG Black fairway wood also features a Miyazaki C. Kua 39 Limited Edition graphite shaft and a lightweight Golf Pride Tour 25 grip, a combination that decreases overall club weight for faster swing speed. MAP price: $229.99.

CG Black irons and CG Black wedges feature a multi-material construction that incorporates a thin, high-strength Ti face, which helps generate maximum C.O.R. for increased ball speed and added distance. Plus, their larger face area means an increased sweet spot for more forgiveness on off-center hits. CG Black irons and wedges feature Deep Undercut technology, which positions the center of gravity lower and deeper in the clubhead to optimize launch angle, spin and playability. CG Black irons and wedges also include the option of Miyazaki C. Kua Limited Edition graphite shafts, which help produce faster swing speed for more distance and accuracy. Every CG Black iron and wedge features Tour Zip Grooves and Laser Milled technology to help maximize spin in accordance with USGA regulations. The CG Black irons' MAP price is either $999.99 (set of 7, graphite) or $899.99 (set of 7, steel). The CG Black wedge carries a MAP price of $139.99 (steel shaft) and $149.99 (graphite shaft).

The Old American Announces Opening of the Carriage House

Building blends territorial design, modern amenities

(THE COLONY, Tex.) - The Old American Golf Club - a GOLF Magazine and Golfweek "Best New" selection in 2010 - today announces the opening of The Carriage House, serving as a check-in location and social venue for golfers.

The Carriage House blends territorial design and modern amenities to create a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere. The building was modeled after clubhouses from the 'Golden Age' of golf course architecture (1911-1937), the time period that inspired The Old American's layout.

"Stepping into The Carriage House feels like you're visiting an old friend," says Geraldine Doran, director of sales. "It's a place golfers can feel comfortable hanging out, having a drink and exchanging good-natured banter."

The Old American's new cart fleet is stored at The Carriage House. All carts are equipped with Visage GPS, providing golfers with precise yardages as they navigate the course. Golfers can place custom food and beverage orders through the GPS and have them delivered directly to their cart.

Since opening in September, The Old American has garnered an impressive list of accolades, including being the only Metroplex course in Golfweek's top 10 "Best Courses You Can Play" in Texas and "Best New" from GOLF Magazine, LINKS Magazine, Golfweek and AVID Golfer.

Dormie Club Honored Again

Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore design near Pinehurst, N.C., ranked as one of the best new golf courses in the country by Golfweek magazine.

PINEHURST, N.C — It has been described as “Bandon Trails East.” One golf writer said it represents “the soul of golf.”

Dormie Club, located just minutes north of the historic Village of Pinehurst, was tapped No. 3 in the United States in Golfweek’s “Best New Courses,” in the magazine’s Oct. 28 issue.

Dormie is the highest ranked of three North Carolina courses honored by Golfweek, and the only southeast course ranked among the Top 5. Joining the Tar Heel State’s noteworthy trio of layouts are acclaimed courses from 16 additional states, including Oregon’s Old Macdonald Course at No. 1 and Oklahoma’s The Patriot at No. 2.

Recognizing courses that opened for play in 2010-2011, this year’s Golfweek’s Best New Courses list highlights the top 25 new layouts.

“What’s remarkable in an era of slow industry growth is how many new markets are open to golf course development,” said Bradley S. Klein, national director of the Golfweek’s Best Courses ratings program.

Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, Dormie’s highly regarded golf course architectural team, have given the United States a stunning new golf masterpiece. After completing Dormie as their historic mark in the “Home of American Golf,” Coore-Crenshaw began their restoration of the Pinehurst Resort’s storied No. 2 course, which in 2014 will make history once again when it plays host to the Men’s and Women’s United States Open Championships in back-to-back weeks.

At Dormie Club, Coore-Crenshaw created a new treasure of American golf by incorporating a wide variety of old-school design features such as reachable par-4s, wind tunnels, a 241-yard reverse Redan par-3, as well as an impressive collection of natural-looking green complexes and bunkers that are remarkably varied in size and shape. Designed for walking, the spectacular golf course site encompasses over 300 acres that feature 100-foot elevation changes, two natural lakes, and mature forests of hardwood and pine. There will be no housing or artificial roadways within this large golf sanctuary.

Dormie Club currently accepts a limited number of reservations from visitors that wish to experience pure golf pleasure. Despite the downturn in the economy, Dormie remains an invitation-only private club with various membership categories including National and Junior.

“Dormie will most assuredly make the next set of Top 100 golf courses in the country lists, and may well be named the Top New Course of 2011,” wrote Larry Olmsted on TheAPosition.com. “What the Dormie Club manages is to muster a classic feel and ambiance, the soul of golf, with a routing that is anything but old fashioned. It feels old fashioned … and the many bunkers are raw and ragged and filled with brown sand and look like they were just gouged out of the earth. It has an unfinished, old-school feel, but it is very much finished (except for a 10-hole practice course they will be building). There are lots of doglegs, some real elevation changes, and enough water to make your heart skip a beat or two, all decidedly ‘unclassic’ touches.”

“Call it ‘Bandon Trails East’ if you’d like, and it wouldn’t be too far off,” wrote TravelGolf.com. “All-natural Dormie Club plays somewhat similar to the Coore-Crenshaw Pacific Northwest gem, with tall pines lining wide fairways bordered by sandy waste areas. Dormie Club, at just less than 7,000 yards and a 140 slope, should play a little longer and more challenging. Those who like the non-residential, wide-open feel of Pinehurst No. 8 will feel right at home at Dormie Club. As long as this course books (non-member) tee times, good players will want to factor it into their must-play list, along with Pinehurst Resort’s 2, 4 and 8, Pine Needles and Tobacco Road, among others.”

To produce the Golfweek’s Best New Courses list, an expert team of more than 675 evaluators rated each layout on the basis of 10 criteria, including routing, conditioning, variety and memorability of holes. The result is an average of scores, which then dictates a course’s overall ranking. Visit Top100.Golfweek.com/GolfweeksBest to view the complete list of Golfweek’s Best New Courses.

Feel Golf Introduces the "SG" 2012 line of Wedges & Irons

(Sanford, Fla.) - Feel Golf Company announced that the company is introducing a new line of wedges and irons with square grooves ("SG") for the upcoming 2012 season.

The "SG" line and other new product lines will be unveiled at the 2012 PGA show in booth number 2300.

Lee Miller, Feel Golf's CEO stated, "Our new "SG" line has authentic old time square grooves and are non conforming in accordance with the new 2010 groove rule. In a survey of recreational players with handicaps from 9 to 28, most overwhelmingly stated, "We are not Tour players, and this game is hard enough without making it more difficult for us!"

We realized with the 2010 groove rules intended to decrease ball spin; there would be a significant decrease in the short game ability for recreational players - especially from the rough and bunkers.

Feel Golf will offer both conforming and non conforming wedges and irons beginning in Jan 2012 to meet customer's wishes. The square groove club line is identified with the logo "SG" on each club."

"After expanding our product line with the acquisition of Pro Line Sports, we feel it necessary to look for additional ongoing opportunities, this said, our aggressive approach will allow us to continue our increased sales momentum while adapting to our customer's new mind set."

Feel Golf, well known for producing some of the best feeling wedges in the golf industry for the past 25 years - designed by Lee Miller and other leading PGA Professionals - blend inherent playing technology into a new line of wedges and irons called, "SG."

"Feel Golf will continue to make conforming wedges and irons such as the major breakthrough we had last year with the new "Lee Miller Signature" wedge design - improving the feel and performance of our wedges after 20 years.

Therefore, to minimize the loss of ball spin and control for the recreational golfer with the new groove ruling, Feel Golf made significant changes to its business model by adding the "SG" line of non-conforming irons and wedges and reinstate most of the spin lost with the new groove ruling.

Ultimately, the company believes the smaller grooves hurt the typical recreational player far more than the Tour player. It always strives to maximize performance and feel and that's a key benefit to its end customer, the recreational golfer.

“We appreciate the high expectations our guests have when playing the golf course,” said Michael Marion, the Director of Golf at CordeValle.  “This is an opportunity for golfers to tune up their game, while we tune up the golf course.  It should be a good experience for everyone.”

Annika Foundation Awarded Grant from Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation

The ANNIKA Foundation, Hall of Fame golfer Annika Sorenstam's charitable organization, was awarded a $50,000 grant from The Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation to further its mission to teach children the importance of living a healthy, active lifestyle through fitness and nutrition, and offer aspiring junior golfers opportunities to pursue their dreams.

One of Central Florida's most recognized and respected organizations, the Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation provides funding for important programs focusing on education, arts, health and human services for many needy individuals, families and organizations in Central Florida.

"We are very thankful to The Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation for this funding," said Annika. "I appreciate that they see the value in our many programs and our expanding presence in the Central Florida community."

The grant will fund the development of several ANNIKA Foundation initiatives, including the Nine Healthy Habits, ANNIKA Junior Day and professional development.

"We are very happy to welcome the ANNIKA Foundation to our long list of Central Florida charitable organizations," said David Odahowski, President and CEO of the Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation. "We're excited to support Annika's passion for teaching young children life lessons through golf with the new Nine Healthy Habits program and ANNIKA Junior Day."

Nine Healthy Habits is a unique children's program being developed in partnership with The First Tee that focuses on promoting health and wellness through golf at over 200 The First Tee chapters and in 4,200 schools around the country. The Nine Healthy Habits teach life-long lessons broken down into nine pillars that children can easily remember and understand. They include energy, play, safety, vision, mind, family, friends, school and community.

ANNIKA Junior Day is an annual initiative of the ANNIKA Foundation that promotes junior golf to underserved children. The event was created in memory of Holly Baxter, a loving mother and golfer who died of brain cancer in 2007. Holly's family asked that an event be created to promote junior golf to underserved children. The day includes a golf clinic led by Annika and skills stations for children to learn about the fundamentals of putting, chipping, swing and fitness. Past participants include children from the Orlando Minority Youth Golf Association OMYGA and the Boys and Girls Club.

Kaenon Polarized Introduces 2011 Anniversary Collection

Celebrating 10 years of Kaenon with new, hand-painted sunglass styles

(Newport Beach, CA) - Kaenon Polarized, the Newport Beach-based Lifestyle and Luxury Performance sunglass brand, announces the launch of its 2011 Anniversary Collection, in celebration of reaching its 10 year milestone as a company. The Anniversary Collection is available in November, online and through Kaenon's authorized dealer network.

"To achieve 10 years of ongoing success, launching a new brand from scratch while enduring major macro-economic down cycles, has been nothing short of amazing," says Steve Rosenberg, company co-founder and CEO. "Led by a burning commitment to innovation, premium quality and world-class customer service from a wonderful team are just a few of the elements that have made Kaenon Polarized a very special brand, product and team to be a part of during the past 10 years. We expect the next 10 to be even more satisfying."

A generous cross-section of the existing Luxury, Lifestyle and Kore Performance lines, every piece in the Anniversary Collection expresses hallmark Kaenon traits including Italian hand-painted craftsmanship, comfort and performance fit, and the optically superior SR-91 polarized lens.

Eight, uniquely Kaenon styles are included in this celebratory release and, as a tribute to the past decade, are being introduced in unique, hand-painted color combinations including:

Hard Kore JM10 G12/C12
Soft Kore Matte Black G12/C12
Burnet Black/Crystal Clear G12
Delite Tortoise n' Cream C12
Gauge Pinstripe G12
Squeeze Tortoise C12
Eden Honeysuckle C12
Trade Matte Tobacco C12

These new additions to the already popular line of Luxury, Lifestyle and Kore Performance sunglasses offer brand loyalists even more stylistic options, fitting seamlessly into all areas of their active lifestyles. The Anniversary Collection expresses the quality, style and attention to detail for which Kaenon has become known over the past decade.

"My brother and I launched Kaenon Polarized 10 years ago to fulfill a simple mission," says Darren Rosenberg, co-founder and COO. "We were not satisfied with existing sunglasses, so we developed proprietary polarized lenses and housed them in frame styles and color treatments that we wanted to wear. Today we are proud to show a collection of over 30 frame styles designed in Newport Beach and hand-painted in Italy. Kaenon has always been about premium quality and a strong desire to never compromise. A keen focus on such core values continues to guide our vision as we grow the Kaenon brand into its second decade."

Kaenon Polarized has become the leader in superior polarized lens technology in the premium sunglass market by introducing an entirely new polarized lens material, SR-91. This proprietary material is standard in all pieces and is the only polarized lens that combines superior optical clarity, impact-protection and glare reduction all in one ultra-lightweight lens. Kaenon SR-91 polarized lenses are available in a variety of lens tints and Light Transmission Levels.

The brand has also revolutionized premium prescription lens processing by pioneering the use of computer-aided design, known as "free-form" technology, in 8-base wrapped polarized lenses. Unlike other sunglass brands, Kaenon prescription lenses are available in every frame in the company's broad collection of sunglasses for both men and women.

Tierra Rejada - 'The Golf Course That Cares' Announces Community Outreach Program

Innovative operation to grant monthly donation to community service organizations; another step in making golf relevant to more players and society

(VENTURA COUNTY, Calif.) - With a series of innovations designed to make golf more enjoyable to more players and instill the game's positive values in youth, Tierra Rejada Golf Club in Moorpark, Calif. is now making a pair of monthly donations to local and regional community service organizations, including those committed to civil service, disease prevention research, youth athletics and other charities. On Nov. 1, "The Golf Course That Cares" will designate the recipients of its first two grants,

Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Tri-Counties and the Ventura County Sheriff's Foundation. In early December, each will receive a monetary donation.

"With our new Community Outreach Program, this means that every round of golf played on our course helps a good cause," said Ted Kruger, developer and co-owner of Tierra Rejada. "The economy has been rough on everyone, and especially for those service organizations that are the community's glue. Since many get by on shoestring or shrinking budgets, we believe our grants can be leveraged into projects and services with great impact."

Among the pool of potential beneficiaries are the Friends of Oak Park Schools, the Ventura Unified School District, Ventura County Fire Department, Westlake Village Meals on Wheels, the Moorpark City Library, the City of Hope, Ventura County Special Olympics and various Boys and Girls Clubs. Added Kruger: "This program is our small way of making golf more relevant to the surrounding community."

For the Good of the Game

Tierra Rejada's Community Outreach initiative follows two other programs that are meant to help the sport forge stronger and more meaningful connections with golfers and society as a whole. The first was "The Players Course," launched to make golf take less time and be more fun, especially for beginning and older players. The second program, called Tierra Rejada Advanced Players Program or TRAPP, uses the club's operations to teach decision-making skills to a select group of student-athletes, imparting lessons about golf and life.

"The Players Course"

Designed to appeal to recreational, senior and young players learning the game, the 5,600-yard "Players Course" is essentially a shortened version of the challenging Championship layout designed by noted architect Bob Cupp. Strategically placed tee boxes and wide landing areas take the forced carries out of play, while a liberal set of local rules speed up the game. Tierra Rejada was the first golf club in a major U.S. market to offer this type of alternative.

"We want to do our part to keep people in the game, and to encourage others to take up the game for the first time," added Kruger. "We already offer unparalleled customer service, great food and a spectacular setting. With 'The Players Course' we offer something that people will want to return to over and over, and at a great value."

For an annual fee of $135, golfers can join "The Players Club," which allows members to play "The Players Course" with a $49 greens fee, with cart included, Monday through Friday, and an $80 greens fee, with cart, on Saturday, Sunday and Holidays. There is also twilight fee of $60 for weekend and holiday play.

TRAPP - Building the Community's Future Decision Makers

Tierra Rejada also started an invitation-only program for junior student-athletes, called the Tierra Rejada Advanced Players Program or TRAPP. In exchange for access to the course, TRAPP members must work alongside Tierra Rejada employees on the day-to-day tasks of running a golf course, working in the pro shop, on the driving range or with a grounds crew. What's more, to test and sharpen their course-management and decision-making skills, members are also required to complete what's known as "The Players Course Challenge."

Before they're allowed to play from longer Tierra Rejada tees, TRAPP participants must register a cumulative 50 under par on "The Players Course," no matter how long it may take. Then, the TRAPP players will graduate to the tournament tees, where again they must register a cumulative 50 under par before moving back to the championship tees. Much like earning a new belt color in martial arts, the achievement instills a sense of pride in reaching that goal.

As "The Golf Course That Cares," Tierra Rejada is nestled in the foothills of eastern Ventura County, in the Tierra Rejada Valley and at the mid-point between three cities - Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley and Moorpark - at the Tierra Rejada exit of the 23 Freeway. The club features the finest grass practice range in the area, a pitching green surrounded by sand bunkers and two top-rate practice greens for chipping and putting. TJ's Grille, the club restaurant and bar, presents first-class food and drink in a relaxed atmosphere where dining can be enjoyed inside by the warmth of a stone fireplace or on the outside patio with a spectacular view of the 10th hole, 18th green and the Reagan Presidential Library. With its picturesque setting, Tierra Rejada is frequently selected as a location for the filming of golf television commercials.

For more information and to reserve a tee time, call (805) 531-9300 or visit www.tierrarejadagolf.com.

Gary Player Visits Los Micos Beach & Golf Resort In Honduras

On October 19, global golf icon and leading course designer Gary Player visited Gary Player Design's first project in Honduras, Los Micos Beach & Golf Resort. The Black Knight joined José Gutierrez the General Manager of DTBT, the developer of the resort, and project investors from Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula for the festivities.

Los Micos is located near Tela Bay on the stunning northern coast of Honduras. It is a multi-faceted project that will feature 5-star hotels, recreation, boating, water sports and sightseeing tours in addition to 18-holes of championship golf. Tela Bay is an environmentally sensitive area supporting a wide array of wildlife, a large variety of trees and plants, and over 350 species of birds. The Honduran government has made environmentally friendly building and design a major part of the Los Micos project and has focused on preserving the natural characteristics of the land.

"Los Micos is a wonderful site and I was really looking forward to seeing how the course is progressing. The naturally occurring sand dunes have added a unique element to the design and construction of the course and the azure colouring of the Caribbean Sea is a beautiful contrast against the dunes and land," said Gary Player.

"I'm not sure how many people are aware of just how beautiful Honduras is and the scope of the Los Micos development. This is going to be one of those places that people start talking about the minute they arrive and we are pleased to be part of this fantastic project," he added.

"We feel very proud to have Gary Player Design as the firm responsible for the development of our golf course, and also extremely excited to receive such an important figure like Gary Player in Honduras. We think he will be just as pleased as we are with the progress of the course," said José Antonio Gutiérrez, general manager of Desarrollo Turístico Bahía de Tela.

"Honduras is another emerging tourist destination where Gary Player and Gary Player Design hope to influence the growth of golf and its contribution to tourism. We have been engaged in Los Micos for quite some time, and we are very pleased that construction has commenced. Senior Designer Jeff Lawrence is visiting the site frequently and accompanied Mr. Player on this trip to review his design input," Scott Ferrell, President of Gary Player Design commented.

adidas Golf Introduces FASHION PERFORMANCE Apparel Line

New Fashionable Looks with Bright Colors and Bold Patters for Modern Style on the Golf Course

(CARLSBAD, Calif.) – adidas Golf, known for  technology-infused, game-enhancing apparel and footwear, is launching an entirely new apparel line aimed at expressing individual style called FASHION PERFORMANCE.

Featuring bold colors and unique patterns, FASHION PERFORMANCE combines tour-proven performance technologies with contemporary, fashion-forward styling. Vibrant color combinations make for a dynamic, confident look with each piece offering a tailored, comfortable fit without sacrificing performance.

“FASHION PERFORMANCE means so much to adidas Golf because it allows a specific segment of golfer to benefit from performance while staying true to their personality on course,” said Tiss Dahan, Sr. Director of Global Apparel. “Uniting adidas Golf’s renowned CLIMA technology allows us to deliver key performance benefits, optimal fit and comfort in the training tops and bottoms while allowing Fashion Performance players the welcome opportunity to express their individual style.”

The line debuts in a variety of uniquely-detailed designs for both men and women, and includes color blocked polos, fashion bottoms, training tops and stylish sweaters made to match and amplify personal style.

adidas Golf Tour Staff professional Jason Day will wear FASHION PERFORMANCE apparel on Tour starting in 2012. “I love the strong, confident colors. It really looks unbelievable; these guys killed it! I think this is going to go a long way,” said Day. “I can’t wait to start wearing it – I’d love to take it with me right now! I think adidas Golf has the best product out there and I am really excited to be a part of this – it makes me want to go out and work harder.”

For the first time, adidas Golf has created a line meant to transition off the course as lifestyle-wear uniquely designed to express individuality, with each piece being easily identifiable as Fashion Performance by its striking combination of patterns, color, modern design and the new, modernized logo.

Introduced in 1999, the adidas Golf logo represents performance, athleticism and an attitude that welcomes challenges on the golf course.  The new FASHION PERFORMANCE identification mark, characterized by the adidas name linked with the flag brand mark, symbolizes the stylish, contemporary and tour-proven performance of this exciting new apparel line. The various logos play an important role in representing the strength of adidas Golf’s performance collections and now the addition of a line emphasizing contemporary fashion.

FASHION PERFORMANCE apparel will be available in the U.S. Nov. 1 and worldwide Feb. 1, 2012.  Manufacturer’s suggested retail prices range from $50-$80 for various pieces in the collection.

'Arnold Palmer Day' celebrated on Hilton Head at Wexford Plantation Grand Reopening

Palmer returns to island with design team to unveil stylish renovation of the Wexford Plantation golf course; Mayor proclaims Oct. 20 a day to remember

(HILTON HEAD, SC) — Hilton Head Island Mayor Drew Laughlin has ordered an Arnold Palmer.

Mayor Laughlin proclaimed October 20, 2011 “Arnold Palmer Day” on Hilton Head in conjunction with Palmer’s return to the island for the grand reopening of the Wexford Plantation golf course.

“Our town and community are committed to excellence in all that we do,” said Mayor Laughlin, “and nothing exemplifies this better than Arnold Palmer and Wexford’s new golf course.”

Thursday morning, Palmer landed on the island aboard his Cessna Citation, accompanied by members of his design team, and following a tour of the new Wexford golf course that now bears his name, struck a ceremonial tee shot and entertained during a lunch and media event.

Palmer first made his mark on Hilton Head in 1969, when he captured the PGA TOUR’s inaugural Heritage Classic on then brand-new Harbour Town Golf Links — his victory lending invaluable credibility to a tournament, a golf course and an entire island.

Now, Arnold Palmer Design Company (APDC) has added to his legacy on the island again by putting its signature stamp on the Wexford Plantation golf course. In this dynamic pairing, Palmer and his team brought their design style to a unique and elegant, 525-acre golf, yachting and tennis community in the heart of Hilton Head’s bustling south end.

The 18-hole Wexford course was originally designed by Willard C. Byrd and opened in 1983. Wexford celebrated its first 25 years in the spring of 2008 and recently spent $3.9 million renovating its comfortably elegant, traditionally Coastal-style clubhouse strategically located facing Broad Creek’s Marshlands and Wexford’s picturesque private marina isolated by one of only three lock systems on the east coast of the United States. The club shut down its golf course for renovation in April and has now reopened as an Arnold Palmer Signature Course.

The new design winds through a magnificent display of stately southern residences within the plantation and is brilliantly blended with the natural setting to provide a meticulously maintained journey through tall, majestic Oaks and stately Pines, over intimate ponds and next to expansive Coastal Marshland to offer a unique but special experience.

Following the APDC renovation, each hole at Wexford now presents a distinctive look, challenge, or strategy in the form of risk and reward situations, heroic shots, preferred angles of approach or delicate plays that require thought, imagination and a deft touch. Width may be friend or foe depending on the slopes and angles between a golfer and their target.

APDC also renovated the Wexford driving range and golf practice area, mirroring the renovation of the golf course by adding enhanced tee space and target greens, while also improving visibility.

APDC has developed a worldwide reputation for designing golf courses that are unique and special. The firm is known for using the natural beauty of the land making each golf course compelling and authentic, featuring its own characteristics — a trait that made the company particularly attractive to the Wexford membership owners.

Considering Wexford’s diverse membership — plenty of working professionals, 100-plus children, active boaters, tennis players, croquet players,  golfers and  retirees — the club wanted a golf course where three generations of members can play and have fun. APDC oversaw a fun and imaginative, complete remodel of the golf course.

Without sacrificing its character, APDC has allowed the Wexford golf course to fit the property naturally and provide the layout a more timeless feel and style. Palmer’s design company has transformed the playing strategy, characteristics and look of the Wexford layout, while also incorporating design changes that have improved drainage and will reduce maintenance costs.

“Our intent was to create a new design in the spirit and tradition of America’s classic golf courses and bring a modern interpretation or twist to their enduring standard and a few select template holes such as The Road Hole, Redan, Alps or Biarritz,” said APDC Senior Architect Brandon Johnson, lead designer on the Wexford project.

Added APDC Senior Architect Thad Layton “Wexford is by no means a replica course, we take inspiration from certain places and our inspiration for the Wexford Plantation remodel is founded in traditional and classic Golf Course Architecture.”

The Wexford renovation encompassed repositioning and reorienting tee complexes, significant bunker removal and strategic old/new bunker placement and modifying, along with tree removal, to increase sun exposure and widen fairway corridors. APDC also added more character to the greens and surrounding complexes, which now provide an enjoyable challenge featuring roll-offs, roll-ons and strong visuals.

“We wanted to give the golfer several options of play off the tee and around the greens to cause him or her to think about their upcoming shot,” Johnson said. “By significantly reducing the amount of bunker space, repositioning them in more visible and strategic locations and widening the fairways we were able to add a previously missing strategic element to the golf course while allowing more room and avenues of play for the higher handicap player.”

Since its inception in 1972, APDC has designed approximately 300 golf courses around the world that are acclaimed for their individually unique styles. In addition, the company is widely recognized among the preeminent experts in the field of renovation work, highlighted by its remodeling of world-renowned tournament venues such as Pebble Beach and Bay Hill.

While Wexford will stand as the only Arnold Palmer Signature Course on Hilton Head, this will not be Palmer’s first design in the Lowcountry. APDC also designed Crescent Pointe in Bluffton, S.C., along with internationally renowned Old Tabby Links on nearby Spring Island.

“We are delighted to be back in the Lowcountry to create a special and unique golf experience for the membership at Wexford,” said Mr. Palmer.  “We hope the strategy, options and variety of play challenge your intellect and allow you to find the best ways to navigate the course based on your personal game. Wexford is a special place to us and we enjoyed the responsibility of remaking this exceptional club.”
