Island Resort Championship Release Urgent Call for Volunteer Caddies

(HARRIS, Mich.) – Island Resort Championship coordinators need 20 volunteers to serve as caddies for LPGA Symetra Tour players during tournament week, June 28-30.

Caddies must be at least 16 years of age, be able to either carry a full set of golf clubs or pull a walking cart, and commit to volunteer for all three days of the tournament.  No previous caddie experience is required.  Those interested can register at deltami.org or call the Delta County Chamber of Commerce at 906.786.2192 by no later than June 20.

The program provides a shirt, hat, food vouchers during volunteer time and a complimentary round of golf at Sweetgrass Golf Club (valued over $100) in return for service.  Caddies receive training prior to the tournament start.

“This is a great experience for kids and adults, encouraging interaction with professional golfers and actively participating in championship play,” says Sweetgrass Director of Golf Dave Douglas.  “We hope avid golfers and students will jump to quickly fill the 20 spots needed.”

Over 300 total volunteers will play a vital role in successfully conducting the championship, providing services such as player transportation and hosting, scoreboard updates, marshaling and others. A complete list of opportunities and roles still available can be found at deltimi.org.  Applicants can state their preference of assignment and shift availability when registering.

This is the third of a three-year Symetra Tour commitment to host the Island Resort Championship at Sweetgrass Golf Club, in Harris.  The field of 144 professional women golfers will vie for the $115,000 purse and a chance to win their 2014 LPGA Tour card.

Three-day tournament passes are on sale now for $10 and can be purchased on the Sweetgrass website or through any of the 45 regional non-profit organizations selling tickets.
