Kiva Dunes Announces $1.5 Million Enhancement Project to Begin July 7

New Changes Improve Playability for Leisure Players While Also Maintaining the Challenge That Appeals to Many Advanced Golfers

(Gulf Shores, Alabama) - Kiva Dunes Golf and Beach Resort, celebrated it’s 20th Anniversary on April 1, while routinely being named among the “Best You Can Play” by Golfweek. Kiva Dunes has unveiled exciting new improvements and renovations to begin July 7 that aim to improve playability of the course by the average golfer, while maintaining the challenges and shot-values enjoyed by the most experienced golfers. The renovations are targeted to be completed by late September.

The renovations include replacing the Champion turf grass on the greens with a more temperate and golfer friendly Tif-eagle turf, completely rebuilding the white sand bunkers, leveling of each tee box and rototilling the Bermuda grass fairways, a process which will dispose of any organic layering under the fairway, ensuring for perfect lies and approach shots into the new greens. Additional enhancements will include some re-vegetation of native grasses and sandy dunes found throughout the course, and improved natural transitions between grasses and the indigenous beach landscape.

To ensure the integrity of the new renovations the original designer, U.S. Open Winner, Jerry Pate, will be on hand to supervise the overhaul and renovation process. The changes at Kiva Dunes make a major statement in the golf industry by taking action to improve the experience in a proven golf market found in Gulf Shores. Kiva Dunes hopes that a golfing environment can be created that is conducive to the full range of golfer, from juniors and those new to the game, the resort-style player, all the way up to the experienced tournament veteran.

“This year we are celebrating 20 years of award winning golf at Kiva Dunes.” Developer, Jim Edgemon states, ”As exciting as that is, and as proud as we are of the current product we provide, we felt the time was ideal to address some of the natural impacts a course on the beach experiences after 20 years of the wind and rain we are accustomed to in southern Alabama, not to mention the impacts of numerous hurri-canes over the years. We’re making a statement that Kiva Dunes is here for the long haul and will contin-ue to be recognized as one of the premier golf and beach resorts in not only the Southeast, but also the United States.”

Kiva Dunes, located on the Fort Morgan Peninsula, just a few miles from the historic Battle Site of Fort Morgan and Mobile Bay, is Alabama’s only Beach and Golf Resort. Opened in 1995, it was immediately recognized by Golf Digest as one of the top 2 Public Courses to open that year.

Throughout the past 20 years it has been the recipient of numerous awards by Golfweek, Golf Digest and other golf publications, including being named the “Best Course in Alabama” in 2013 by Golf Digest, and a top 75 Golf Resort by Golfweek. Edgemon welcomes everybody out, “When we reopen this fall, we invite all of you to take a drive along the beach and play the newly renovated Kiva Dunes Golf Course.”
