TPT Golf Shafts Earn Worldwide Distribution, Two Tour Wins in 2017

(RENENS, SWITZERLAND) - Less than one year after its introductory launch, TPT Golf has earned the respect of discerning golfers worldwide for the performance and precision of its revolutionary line of golf shafts.

TPT Golf's big moment actually came twice this fall. Its 15LKP-LT-LW shaft was used to win back-to-back events on the European Tour: the WGC-HSBC Champions in China and the Turkish Airlines Open. The 15LKP-LT-LW shaft will be officially launched at the 2018 PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando.

"We're incredibly proud to have seen our shaft used to win twice at the highest level," says Sebastian Sebayang, Director of TPT Golf. "What's just as important to us, however, are the reports we're getting from our Authorized Fitters. Golfers of all abilities are validating our technology. They're hitting it longer. They're hitting it straighter. They're feeling the difference."

To date, TPT Golf has partnered with more than 50 renowned club fitters located across the world that share TPT Golf's goal of helping every golfer find the perfect shafts for their game.

TPT Golf's shaft lineup currently includes 10 distinct models, each of which is created with its revolutionary "Thin Ply Winding" method. This automated, patent-pending process gives TPT Golf total control over every design parameter. The ability to independently control parameters such as kick point, torque and weight allows TPT Golf shafts to meet the precise needs of each and every golfer. It also results in a completely seamless shaft that is produced to an exact gram weight and CPM.

"We know how seriously golfers take their game, and that's why we make shafts the way we do," Sebayang says. "It doesn't matter if you're a tour pro or a weekend golfer. Your shaft should not get in the way of a perfect shot. Golfers across the world are demanding a new level of performance and precision. TPT Golf was created to meet that need."

Golf Pride Announces Passing of its Founder and Industry Pioneer Bill Junker

(SOUTHERN PINES, N.C.) - Eaton has announced that the golf industry lost one of its most respected and impactful equipment pioneers, William H. “Bill” Junker. Since the inception of Golf Pride, Bill was the driving force behind the development and the rise of the #1 Grip Worldwide. On November 19, 2017, he passed away in Phoenix, Arizona at the age of 93.

During the 1950s and 1960s, Junker, and his late business partners, Thomas Fawick and Jim Karns, revolutionized the golf grip category by demonstrating that molded rubber provides the most playable and highest-performing grip surface available. Under Junker’s leadership, Golf Pride revolutionized the installation of grips with the introduction of the slip-on rubber grip. Prior to then, grips were molded directly on to the shaft making it virtually impossible to change grips. The innovation opened the door for both efficient equipment assembly and a full-fledged pro shop grip replacement business.

After Golf Pride’s parent company was acquired by Eaton Corporation in 1968, Junker retired and moved to Arizona where he enjoyed a successful second-career in commercial real estate. Although he took an early exit from the golf world, Junker maintained keen interest in the game and business, sustaining friendships with many Tour players, industry leaders, and golf writers throughout his life.

Like other innovators who challenged golf traditions, Junker was met with resistance to change, so he fought persistently for his product and vision, and by doing so helped usher golf equipment into the modern era.  In 1989, he documented the challenges, adventures, and colorful anecdotes related to launching what at the time was a radical new golf product in his book The History of the Golf Pride Grip. Today, we enjoy Junker’s legacy as the Golf Pride brand continues to be the #1 Grip Worldwide for both amateur and Tour players alike with 80% of Tour Players choosing to play the grip despite no paid endorsement fees.

“Bill Junker might not have stayed in the golf industry long enough to become a household name, but he was a true icon of the game and his mark on it is everlasting,” said James Ledford, President of Golf Pride. “We are honored to have the job of carrying on his legacy of innovation and performance in today’s Golf Pride grips.”

Junker is survived by his wife of 73 years, by 7 of their 8 children, and by 15 grandchildren.

Gifts in Bill’s memory may be made to Faith4life Church, Dallas, 2104 Hutton Dr. Ste. 112, Carrollton TX 75006; The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Phoenix; or Sage Hospice, Scottsdale.

The Junior Spec Wedges are designed for junior golfers who demand the highest quality equipment and are serious about improving their game. Cleveland Golf’s Junior Spec Wedges will launch on Dec. 11, 2017.

Cleveland Golf has been a global leader in wedge innovation and short game technologies since 1979. Their latest offering, the Junior Spec Wedges, brings the same scoring tools included in their main line offerings, but in a form that will fit developing golfers.

Brian Schielke, Marketing Director at Cleveland Golf, discussed how the Junior Spec Wedges will serve the needs of improving young players.

Our Junior Spec Wedges provide the perfect blend of technology and playability for junior golfers, and will be available in store for them to see and try out first-hand.”

Video Review Protocols Introduced for Broadcasted Golf Events

USGA and The R&A to adopt Local Rule to eliminate scorecard penalty

(FAR HILLS, N.J. USA and ST ANDREWS, SCOTLAND) -  A working group led by the USGA and The R&A has unanimously agreed to adopt a new set of protocols for video review when applying the Rules of Golf.

The group, consisting of the PGA TOUR, LPGA, PGA European Tour, Ladies European Tour and The PGA of America, as well as the governing bodies, will implement the following measures from January 1, 2018:
- Assign one or more officials to monitor the video broadcast of a competition to help identify and resolve Rules issues as they arise
- Discontinue any steps to facilitate or consider viewer call-ins as part of the Rules decision process

In addition, the USGA and The R&A have approved the adoption of a Local Rule, available from January 1, to eliminate the additional two-stroke penalty for failing to include a penalty on the score card when the player was unaware of the penalty. All of the organizations represented on the working group will introduce the Local Rule for 2018, and this score card penalty will be permanently removed when the modernized Rules of Golf take effect on January 1, 2019.

The USGA and The R&A established the video review working group in April to initiate a collaborative discussion on the role video footage can play when applying the Rules, including the challenges and benefits of its use and also the issues that arise from viewer call-ins.

“The level of collaboration with our partners has been both vital and gratifying as we look to the future,” said Thomas Pagel, USGA senior director of the Rules of Golf and Amateur Status. “As technology has continued to evolve, it has allowed us to evolve how we operate, as well.” [To watch an interview on with Pagel on Video Review, plus a copy of the protocols and full Local Rule, click here]

David Rickman, Executive Director – Governance at The R&A, said, “This has clearly become an important issue in the sport that we felt we should address at this stage ahead of the implementation of the updated Rules of Golf in 2019.

“We have concluded that whilst players should continue to be penalized for all breaches of the Rules during a competition, including any that come to light after the score card is returned, an additional penalty for the score card error is not required.”

The new protocols also recognize the importance of limiting video review to material obtained from the committee’s broadcast partner. Other video, such as from an individual’s smartphone or camera, will not be used under these protocols.

The new protocols and Local Rule are the latest measures announced by the USGA and The R&A to address concerns related to video evidence. In April, Decision 34-3/10 was issued to limit the use of video through the introduction of a “reasonable judgement” standard and a “naked eye” standard.

Tagmarshal Pace-of-Play System Earns Raves at Carnoustie Golf Links

(CARNOUSTIE, Scotland) – Tagmarshal – the golf course intelligence and pace-of-play system used by golf courses, country clubs and resorts globally – is achieving high-quality results at Carnoustie Golf Links’ Championship Course, host of the 2018 Open Championship and one of Golf Digest’s top-30 courses worldwide.

After only two months of management, clubhouse staff and player assistants deploying Tagmarshal technology, golfers’ rounds were reduced by an average of 17 minutes. 88% of play was on or within 10 minutes of appropriate pace, including a 183% improvement in the number of golfers on pace.

“I can’t imagine operating without Tagmarshal as it enables us to further enhance golfing experiences, improve service delivery and pace of play and generate additional revenue,” says Colin Sinclair, Head Golf Professional at Carnoustie. “Tagmarshal is invaluable and at the forefront of how we will manage our course operations in the future.”

A recent USGA survey shows 74% of golfers believe appropriate speed is critical to enjoyment of their rounds. This is the impetus for Ballybunion Golf Club (Irish Open), The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort (2021 PGA Championship), Whistling Straits (2020 Ryder Cup), Erin Hills (2017 U.S. Open), East Lake (2017 TOUR Championship) and many others to adopt Tagmarshal.

“The actionable data insights gained by tracking Carnoustie members and guests are a testament to Tagmarshal’s effectiveness,” says Bodo Sieber, CEO of Tagmarshal. “As an ‘eye in the sky,’ our platform presents a unique opportunity to turn pace into an asset instead of an obstacle for golfers and course operators.”

Partnering with Tagmarshal has allowed courses to become pace setters with improved operational efficiencies, saving costs and adding prime tee times that routinely realize more than $100,000 in annual incremental revenue. Superintendents also use Tagmarshal data to better manage pin placements, wear patterns, hole set-ups and operational efficiencies.

StrackaLine Greens Guides Enjoy Banner Year, Look Forward to 2018 Growth

Golf’s Best Professional and Collegiate Players Use Revolutionary Guides

(San Diego, Calif.) - StrackaLine, one of golf's leading technology companies, vaulted to prominence in 2017 as leading players on every major professional tour and 250+ collegiate teams began using the company's laser-scanned greens guides.

Utilizing patented technology, StrackaLine creates topographical greens maps that are accurate down to the millimeter. The greens maps, which feature easy to read arrows, allow players to view contour and fall lines, in addition to slope percentage, anywhere on the green.

StrackaLine now has 700+ courses scanned, including some of the nation's most prominent layouts. Use of the greens guides at the highest levels of the game surged throughout 2017, and the company now counts nearly every Division I golf program, including last year’s national champions, among its users.

"StrackaLine Greens Guides are leading the game forward, allowing players of all skill levels to better read putts and improving pace of play," company president Jim Stracka said. "The use our greens guides receive on professional tours across the globe is a testament to the quality of StrackaLine, as is the usage by more than 250 college teams. We look forward to helping even more players properly read greens on their favorite courses in 2018."

"The books are awesome," a top 100 men's college coach said. "Kids that wouldn't even look at their yardage books are using them on every green."

Professional usage has helped drive interest in the StrackaLine Greens Guides, and the technology is just as valuable to "regular" amateur golfers hoping to improve their score.

The greens guides can be purchased in book form ($97/each) or accessed via the StrackaLine smartphone app ($179/course).

For golf course owners and operators, the technology can be used to improve pace of play and help ensure quality course conditions. StrackaLine offers hole location software that allows superintendents to utilize a proprietary algorithm to help set hole locations.

StrackaLine will continue to add to its library of golf courses throughout 2018. It takes just eight minutes to scan and capture an entire green and the StrackaLine team can complete an 18-hole course and practice green in five hours without disrupting play.

(RENENS, SWITZERLAND) - TPT Golf announced that a TPT Golf driver shaft was used to earn a top-five finish at Hero World Challenge played in New Providence, Bahamas.

"It was a very special week for TPT Golf at the Hero World Challenge," said Sebastian Sebayang, Director of TPT Golf. "TPT Golf shafts continue to perform and impress at tour events across the world. I have been very pleased with our results in 2017, and I'm looking forward to a very exciting 2018."

"This method creates a spineless shaft and overcomes the inconsistencies sometimes seen in shafts produced by the more-traditional table rolling methods. TPT shafts provide exceptional feel, leading to tighter shot dispersion, low spin and increased distance. And for the first time ever, we can design a shaft that starts with the physical capabilities of the human body and goes on to reflect the coaching being received in practice."

TPT Golf can now provide the best-performing products for Tour pros and amateurs alike, bringing a consistent and precise product into the shaft marketplace. The range of TPT Golf™ shafts has been designed to make the fitting process as simple as possible. There are models to suit players with any swing speed.

Coach Labs' GEN i1, World's First & Only Intelligent Golf Ball, Exhibiting at the PGA Merchandise Show

(LOS ANGELES, Calif.) - It was one of the busiest booths and most publicized products at last year’s PGA Merchandise Show and was recognized as the “Best New Game Improvement Device of the Year.”  Coach Labs, manufacturers of the World’s first and only intelligent golf balls, will be returning to the 2018 PGA Merchandise Show, Jan. 23-26, in Orlando, Fla. The company will also be participating at the Tour Edge Multi-Manufacturers Media Day Monday January 22 at Lake Nona Country Club and will also be at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Jan. 9-12.

The patent pending GEN i1 golf ball’s core contains a nine-axis embedded sensor and on-board MCU that acts like a miniature launch monitor inside. The “smart” ball is calibrated specifically for putting measuring initial direction, speed, impact force, and ball rotation. The data is then transmitted through an app to your mobile device via Bluetooth.  In addition, The GEN i1 comes with a sensor for the handle of your putter that shows the “cause and effect” of your stroke and ball line.

“The GEN i1 has been designed through a very sophisticated, patented technology and manufacturing process that is connecting golf performance with play,” said Jason Koo, Founder of Coach Labs, Inc. “Coach Labs is several years ahead of any smart ball technology currently in development. And as the first company to bring a smart ball to the retail market, we are extremely excited to announce that Coach Labs will be unveiling the GEN i2 – the first full swing smart ball also at the 2018 PGA Show.”

The GEN i1 app is very easy and intuitive. Once the user creates an account, the GEN i1 will be able to assess his/her skill level and provide a customized practice plan that will entertain while improving their skills. Gen i2 will provide golfers with their full swing data including direction, spin rate, distance and speed.   Gen i3 will be modified for indoor use only and practice in golf simulators and for gaming applications.

“We are excited for Orange Whip to join the PKBGT ‘Let’s Play’ Campaign to create more opportunities for girls to experience and develop in tournament golf,” said PKBGT Director Mike Parker. “We are honored to work together to create more on-course opportunities for the girls and eliminate obstacles to entry.”

Antigua Introduces 2018 Men's Outerwear Collection

(PEORIA, AZ) - Antigua Group, Inc. - one of the nation's leading designers and marketers of lifestyle and golf apparel under the distinguished Antigua brand - has officially unveiled its Men's 2018 Outerwear collection.

"For Spring '18, Antigua has no shortage of seasonal lightweight outerwear," says Ron McPherson, CEO of Antigua. "The half-zip pullover is to outerwear what the polo collar is to a golf shirt -- a staple. It's the model of choice for cool weather garment of any weight. Antigua covers the gamut in both fabrication choices to function best in certain temperatures, as well as creating a variety of fashion options ranging from quilted, tonal double knits, stripes with accents, fleeced garments, sweater-like fabrications, and contrasting embossed, tonally striped windwear."

The solid long-sleeve pullover style Anchorage is a favorite, based on wearability and fashion simplicity. With top sleeve placement of its ribbed quilting for style, as well as warmth, it matches a low-profile jacquard knit ottoman as the main body fabric. It's genuinely a must-have cool weather garment offered in five sophisticated shades.

Style Profile
Profile combines the season's fashion color palette with a 50-50 color-to-contrasting-black knit check. The upper portion represents a richer version of the specific color, bringing more black to the surface against the underlying color. The garment's lower majority does the opposite. This is simply achieved with a single fabric constructed as a double knit jacquard, organically sending more of one color to the surface and the other to the back side. By reversing which side of the fabric is used in the placement determines the seemingly color block effect. To give full contrast to this mid-weight style, the design team included reflective chest seam tape where the inverted fabrics are seamed and ran it perpendicular to a silver chrome nylon zipper for an updated contemporary feature.

Style Voyage
Every season, Antigua's product development team meticulously looks to be on top of market direction and has found an influence and resurgence of sweater and sweater-like apparel designed to be interpreted as sportswear. Voyage is Antigua's interpretation of this direction. While it's cut-and-sewn instead of fully fashion-knitted into a sweater, Voyage offers the versatility to be casual or classic. Similarly, to how Profile's fabric is constructed, Voyage uses a fuller fibrous filament yarn that disperses sweater-like hairs along its neutral color scheme, while the backside of this double knit jacquard uses a contrasting solid black yarn. Contrasting black fabric back is flipped to the face at gusset insets, creating a sportswear design detail. The seasonal two-color zipper placket is set in as a pop color accent, to merchandise back to specific seasonal polo styles.

Styles Thunder, Cyclone and Maritime
Antigua always looks to bring something new to its windwear collections. Styles Thunder, Cyclone and Maritime form Antigua's Spring 2018 windwear offerings. While Thunder makes use of a diamondback jacquard stretch woven for its tonally embossed center core, its boldly contrasting knit sleeves make a statement that it's sportswear belonging in the '18 collection. Cyclone and Maritime feature the same meshed lined woven automatic pin stripe fabric to create a short-sleeve wind shirt and wind vest, respectively. Cyclone's contrasting chrome inverted zippers on the placket and in the chest and hip pockets complement this style's tonal body stripes. Antigua's pride in both its polo and outerwear collections are its consistency in offering a performance fit appropriate to the garment while maintaining its on-course function and style. Cyclone demonstrates this dedication to fit consistency.

Antigua's wind vest Maritime mirrors Cyclone with regard to its outerwear spec and fits as a wind vest should. Tailored to aesthetically match Antigua's polo sleeve seams, it functions as a perfect piece for inclement or temperate weather.

Style Frontier
Rounding out the Spring 2018 outerwear is the fully fleeced style Frontier. Built as a cool weather knit outer or under layer, Frontier uses randomly twisted two-tone heavy gauge yarns to create a horizontal irregular all-over stripe effect. It's the go-to garment when cooler weather encourages warmer clothing.

In its Spring 2018 polo styles and outerwear offerings, Antigua has dutifully merchandised an extensive collection of beautifully styled menswear with matched versatility for on and off the course.

Double the Power in the New Wilson Staff C300 Iron Line

(RELEASE) - Wilson Golf announces two new sets of C300 irons, both designed to deliver greater distance and superior feel.  Wilson Labs, the innovation hub at Wilson Sporting Goods, Co., engineered these irons for the crossover (C) player whom Wilson defines as a mid-to-high handicap player seeking distance and accuracy, but in a more playable, midsize offering.

For accuracy and power, both C300 iron sets feature Wilson Staff’s revolutionary Power Hole™ technology. These urethane-filled through-holes strategically positioned around the face minimize contact between the body and face while providing maximum flex and an expanded sweet spot.

“We are extremely excited to introduce the next generation of crossover irons with Power Hole™ technology,” said Jon Pergande, Global Manager of Golf Innovation. “The distance, forgiveness, and feel of the C300 line exceeded even our high expectations. In our Wilson Labs play-testing, we are seeing results that far surpass what traditional irons currently offer,” added Pergande.

C300 Irons
The C300 iron line represents the first time a double-row of Power Holes has been incorporated into our 3-GW Irons. On the sole, five Power Holes in a double-row configuration provide maximum deflection of the face for supreme forgiveness while additional Power Holes on the toe and topline mean that every shot is in the sweet spot

C300 Forged Irons
For feel and responsiveness, C300 Forged irons feature soft, forged carbon steel heads with Power Holes along the toe and sole to instantly add yards and off-center accuracy. These are the first Forged Carbon Steel Irons to feature Power Hole Technology. Found on 3-8 Irons, C300 Forged Irons are designed with five Power Holes, in a double-row configuration, across the sole and two Power Holes on the Toe. The topline of the club is solid creating a masterpiece of accuracy, responsiveness and feel.

The C300 irons (Steel $799.99/Graphite $899.99) and the C300 forged irons (Steel $899.99/ Graphite $999.99) will be available December 4th for pre-sale on and in-stores January 2018.

The C300 irons will feature new Lamkin Crossline 2 grips that are larger, softer and more comfortable and these are fitted to either a KBD Tour 90 steel shaft, or a Fujikura Speeder Pro 78i graphite shaft.

The C300 Forged irons will also feature these new Lamkin grips fitted to either a KBD Tour 105 steel shaft, or a Fujikura Speeder Pro 85i graphite shaft.

Product Review: Bushnell Excel GPS Rangefinder Watch

Bushnell has just turned the GPS watch market on its ear. The new Excel GPS rangefinder watch has rendered all others insufficient.

It does what all others do, of course, by providing yardage to the front, middle and back of the greens. But there is so much more that sets this watch apart.

For example:
Bluetooth integration with smartphone allows you to get course updates without needing to sync with a computer and you can receive calls, messaging and calendar notifications on your watch.
Long battery life – You can play three rounds before needing to charge. My current gamer makes it through approximately 27 holes. That’s fine if I’m playing 18 at home and can charge at night, but when I’m on a golf trip and play 36 holes a day, it’s no fun to play “blind” on the back nine of the second round.

Bushnell has mastered the “expected” with the Excel. Golfers expect their GPS watch to come preloaded with courses and this product delivers with more than 35,000 tracks worldwide.

They also expect distances from the front, center and back to be easy to read. Check.

Additionally, your GPS watch should have auto course recognition - meaning, the satellite knows what course you’re playing from your location. Auto hole advance is demanded, too. Done on the third green and moving to the fourth tee? The watch automatically changes with you. Considering the weather can change in an instant, the Excel is water resistant. It also includes a USB charging cord.

What about the unexpected bells and whistles? The Excel boasts full-front optical mounted color display with auto brightness adjustment and shows up to four hazard distances per hole. Considering the many shots taken before approaching the green, the latter is critical.

In the past, I’ve worn a GPS watch on my right wrist because I had my trusty Fitbit (to measure steps taken) on my left. No more, as the Excel offers an integrated fitness step counter! It also serves as a stopwatch, alarm and timer.

There are swing metrics available, as well. Measure your tempo and swing speed with the Excel. The ideal swing ratio is 3:1 - backswing through follow through. According to the Excel, I’m consistently between 2.9:1 and 3.1: 1. I’ll take it. I’m also around 97 mph on swing speed, which I’d like to increase a little bit (something to work on).

I saw the weather feature and thought it would be awesome to have a 4-5 hour forecast. What can I expect from Mother Nature over the upcoming round? It was actually a temperature and barometric pressure reading. Perhaps the next generation of GPS watches will address the forecast, though I feel like I’m asking for too much. Give me an inch and I'll ask for a personal meteorologist.

Everything to this point has been awesome and is enough reason to get yourself an Excel GPS rangefinder watch. That said, the Bushnell Golf app is included with your purchase. The app offers:
- Full color aerial views of hole layouts with distances
- Scorekeeping
- Book tee times
- Swing analysis stats
- Pedometer and Fitness Trackers

Here’s the coolest feature. You get all of the above ... AND ... 3D flyovers with distances. Maybe I’m a simpleton, but I LOVE this part of the package. It feels like I’m watching a PGA TOUR telecast on my phone.

The Excel GPS rangefinder watch retails for $249.99, but I’ve seen it for sale at Dick’s, Golf Galaxy, PGA TOUR Superstore and (to name a few) for $199.98. For more information, visit

McConnell Golf's Holston Hills Country Club Turns 90 Years Old in Style

Owner McConnell Golf wraps up $1.4 million in renovations around the clubhouse and golf course

(KNOXVILLE, TENN.) — Holston Hills Country Club in East Knoxville has celebrated its 90th anniversary this year with numerous renovations around the clubhouse and golf course.

Located near the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains on 180 open acres of rolling old farmland tucked into a bend in the Holston River, Holston Hills was purchased by McConnell Golf in December 2015. With a nod to the past and an eye on the future, the Raleigh-based company immediately invested $1.4 million in capital improvements.

Holston Hills features a 1927 Donald Ross-designed golf course that immediately became recognized as the finest course in the state when it opened and started hosting every important regional tournament including a PGA Tour event — and has remained nearly untouched through the years.

The co-founder of the Donald Ross Society, Michael J. Fay, has said that he would rather play Holston Hills on a consistent basis than any other golf course in the South. Acclaimed golf course architect Tom Doak says Holston Hills is the closest golf course around to what Ross originally designed.

“I knew when I saw Holston Hills that it would be a great addition to our golf portfolio,” said McConnell Golf Founder and CEO John McConnell. “It’s a ‘must-play’ for our members.”

Perched on a hill affording breathtaking views, the recently renovated Holston Hills clubhouse overlooks the golf course and showcases bay windows, elegant arched doors, and a central ballroom with large cathedral ceilings and exposed wood trusses. An outdoor terrace on the south side of the ballroom offers members a space to relax and take in the view with its comfortable Tudor architecture.

McConnell said he knew Holston Hills was a special place from the moment he set foot on the property. “It immediately reminded me of Shinnecock Hills,” McConnell recalls, referencing the storied eastern Long Island golf club that was a founding member of the USGA and next year will host its fifth U.S. Open Championship.

Last year, McConnell Golf added a Fitness Center at Holston Hills including state-of-the-art, Torque series equipment — a variety of machines such as leg extension and curl, along with Intenza Entertainment Bikes, treadmills, Octane stride elliptical and Octane XT-One. Rounding out the equipment are exercise mats, medicine and stability balls, resistance cables and foam rollers, all of which promote and support flexibility and non-impact strength routines.

Holston Hills members have enjoyed the key FOB access to the fitness center seven days a week from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., giving them flexible hours to customize and mix-up their workout routines.

“We have a contract with Performance Training, Inc. that allows for onsite personal training, group fitness classes, and golf fitness clinics and assessments,” said Katelyn Graham, the club’s Activity and Wellness Manager. “Whether you enjoy the stretch-and-strengthen of a yoga class or the heart-pumping energy of circuit training, the group class schedule at Holston Hills has something right up your alley. We make it convenient to stick to your routine, or maybe even try something new, with morning and evening classes throughout the week and a supportive atmosphere.”

Now, the rest of the Holston Hills renovation has been completed.

The former kitchen at Holston Hills was completely gutted and a brand-new kitchen built. McConnell Golf then constructed an entirely new restaurant at Holston Hills called the “Donald Ross Room.” The room includes a bar, high-top tables, booth seating and regular dining table seating.

In addition, a new veranda for outdoor seating overlooks the Smoky Mountains and the golf course. The veranda seats up to 36 people and has quickly become the most popular spot for dining at the club. The restaurant includes two 70-inch TVs and is perfect for watching a ballgame.

The club has also upgraded the Holston Room for private dining or business meetings. This room has maintained the beautiful wood beam arched ceilings from the original design and offers a jaw-dropping view of the golf course.

McConnell Golf has given the Holston Hills men’s locker room a nice facelift as well. One hundred wooden lockers were constructed along with a remodeling of the bathrooms and the card room, including bar service for the members.

The grand ballroom has maintained its original 1920s architecture with masculine wood beam ceilings, but has added new flooring and windows looking over the patio on the golf course side of the club with a great view of the Smoky Mountains. This room seats 250-270 for weddings and large parties.

McConnell Golf also added a new golf shop on the east side of the building along with a club room to house fitting carts and equipment. The golf shop is full service with the most current and top lines in men’s and ladies apparel and also provides offices for the Director of Golf, Assistant Professionals, and the Membership Director.

Members can now enjoy the new portico when arriving at the club. When dining, the portico provides a dry and safe entrance to the Donald Ross room. “It also makes the arrival for golf much more service friendly when using the new bag drop area,” said Holston Hills Director of Golf Chris Dibble.

Holston Hills is writing a new chapter to its storied history as a family club with full amenities and a beautiful clubhouse. The old golf shop has been converted to a dedicated Kid’s Club area where many enjoyable activities take place. It includes video games, a TV with a Wii, beanbags, board games, and other fun things for kids to do while their parents enjoy other areas of the club.

“Since the end of 2016, we have hosted monthly, staff-led programs with activities that range from outdoor games like ‘Messy Mania’ to arts and crafts which we like to call ‘Kids Night Out’ — each with a theme,” said Graham. “Kids are quick to make friends and let loose in this just-for-kids environment. It’s something they look forward to time and time again. We hope that this space will enhance future kids’ events at Holston.”

Holston Hills also added its first summer camps this year, allowing kids to take advantage of all the club’s facilities — from learning golf and tennis fundamentals, to cooling off at the pool — during the long, fun-filled summer days with friends.

Adjacent to the pool with a view of the golf course, the Holston Hills tennis facility has four Rubico clay courts and two hard courts. The courts are professionally maintained and each enjoyed during peak season from April through November, with hard courts remaining in play during the off-season as well.

Beyond open play, the club’s growing tennis program features seasonal clinics led by Tennis Professionals Bart Kennedy and Troy Cash. The multi-day clinics help players of all levels sharpen their skills and master the strategy of the doubles or singles format.

Junior Tennis clinics are also offered to help children learn fundamentals and advance their growing skill sets.

Said McConnell: “Holston Hills enjoys a proud past and we think that it has a great future as well.”

Re-Designed Shingle Creek Golf Club Featured in December Traveling Golfer

(PHILADELPHIA, Pa.) - Ever since opening in 2003, Shingle Creek Golf Club has been a leader in the Orlando golf scene. It has been a favored venue by visitors to the area, as well as competitive championship golfers.

Recently voted the favorite golf course by Orlando Sentinel readers, the course is now even more popular thanks to a dramatic renovation by the Arnold Palmer Design Company.

A new look at the re-designed Shingle Creek Golf Club will be the focus of the December episode of the award-winning Traveling Golfer television show. Show host Tony Leodora takes the viewers to on a tour of the spectacular layout, as well as providing an insightful interview with Palmer Design's vice president and senior golf course architect Thad Layton. In addition, the Traveling Golfer takes viewers on a grand tour of the AAA Four Diamond Rosen Shingle Creek, the 1,501-room luxury hotel that is adjacent to the golf course. The tour includes looks at a number of the 15 dining venues on the property, the four heated swimming pools, the spa, fitness center and the more than half-million square feet of meeting and event space.

"It was an exciting project to work on a course with such a solid reputation as Shingle Creek," said Layton, who has received national acclaim for his work with Palmer Design. "The catalyst for the project was the expansion of the hotel. They decided to cast a fresh set of eyes on the property and they brought us in and we talked about how we could make this golf course different in the Orlando market. It was a bit tricky - like putting together a jigsaw puzzle."

A number of old holes were closed. A number of new holes were created. And the rest of the golf course got a fresh, new look.

"I have played the golf course many times since it first opened in 2003 and always enjoyed the layout," says Traveling Golfer host Tony Leodora. "But the new course has a bold excitement about it. And, of course, the hotel at Rosen Shingle Creek is absolutely breathtaking. There is no higher level of comfort, convenience or service in the entire Orlando area."
